HORSEFEATHERS AWARD FOR REASONED DISCOURSE (2)
This week's winner: the noted Columbia University scholar, Edward Said. In an article in the Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram, Said describes Cynthia Ozick as the author of a "Hitlerian piece... in the Wall Street Journal on 30 June in which she speaks of Palestinians...(in)words that would be entirely in place at the Nuremberg rallies..." This is now the standard mode of legitimizing Jew hatred: equate Israel and its defenders with Hitler while casting the Palestinian savages as the beleaguered Jews of the Warsaw ghetto. Said goes on to slander various other authors like Bernard Lewis and Fouad Ajami, while ranting about the hateful United States in the grip of the "neocons"--code word for 'Jews'-- ("how a moderately intelligent bureaucrat like Paul Wolfowitz could be running policies of such colossal incompetence and, at the same time, convincing people that he knows what he is doing, boggles the mind.") No doubt Said will be hailed by the Columbia faculty for his courage in standing up to the powerful Jewish lobby. He is a worthy recipient of this week's Horsefeathers award for reasoned discourse.
Eddy Said has always been a lying headcase and his cancer has only made him worse. My accurate and uncharitable observation is that cancer is a whole body disease that very often affects mental processes. Erratic behavior can be a leading indicator of an undetected cancer. Add to the mix his conflicted sexuality done Muslim style and you have a bloody mess. That he projects on to the Jews.

Posted by: Keith on July 25, 2003 10:32 PMI was enjoying a nice cold unsophisticated beer when I read that. Quite ruined it.
What I notice is how he and his Counterpunching ilk constantly feel the need to demean their targets in a personal way. Hence Wolfowitz is "moderately intelligent" (almost a compliment by Said's standards), but others are "ninth rate hacks", represent "so-called think tanks, which are in reality Israeli lobbying fronts" or whatever. I don't think it's polite or acceptable to impute to one's political beliefs a basis in sociopathic, abnormal or just plain repugnant personality, but might these unnecessary insults betray a real inability to get along with others? I can't see these guys civilly resolving a mundane dispute, like who was on line first at the dry cleaners, based on how they wield their pens.

Posted by: RUTH KING on July 29, 2003 12:24 PMObviously, the fallacy of Nazi->Jew analogy is the difference between both group's motivatons in subjugation of the other. One was based in blame and or aspirations for a master race, the other an act of self preservation. Hope that wasn't too sophmoric. :-)
Posted by: John on August 1, 2003 05:55 AMEdward Said, and other Noam Chomsky butt boys, have a habit of playing fast and loose with the truth. The only thing "Hitlerian" about Ozick's article was that the Palestinians are Hitlerian in their ethnically based mass murder, which sanctions the murder of any Jew, anywhere, anytime, regardless of age, nationality, or even political beliefs. To call the Israelis "racist" for their relatively restrained attempts to protect themselves from this ethnically based and religiously psychotic mass murder via sucide bombings is absurd. Maybe if the Palestinians unequivocally desisted from their mass murder policy (which, incredibly, their religious leaders and parents for the most part support--not even in Nazi Germany did the clergy gleefully encourage such bloodletting)the Israelis would have no reason to protect themselves with a wall or a fence. I can only hope that Said's leukemia comes back with a vengeance, and that his poisoned pen can be laid to rest once and for all.
